On a different note, the former Kickstarter Inc. announced its reincorporation as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) — which may sound a bit contradictory. According to Kickstarter, PBCs are "for-profit companies that are obligated to consider the impact of their decisions on society, not only shareholders", and more companies are expected to make the switch in the coming years. Will that include architecture firms? Considering that many architects and designers use Kickstarter, how much will the PBC ideology influence the industry?
Frank Lloyd Wright's Call Building Model
Driven by Frank Lloyd Wright's Organic principles, non-profit group Organic Architecture and Design Archives, Inc. is raising funds to construct an exact full-size replica of FLW's iconic San Francisco Call Building model. The group is currently raising funds to construct an exact full-size replica of the nearly 8-foot-tall original.
Because architects can never have enough pocket-sized drafting tools. However, the AlumiDrafter also provides measurements that engineers and contractors will find useful.
During the Chicago Architecture Biennial, The Architecture Lobby plans to build an installation for performing scenarios depicting the absurdities and contradictions of architectural practice/labor/work. The project's opening date is slated for the end of October.
Rebuild Sha community temple in Bhutan
A local initiative by the village residents of Sha Bjena in Bhutan garnered strong support to renovate the 13th century Balakha Lhakhang temple, a major boost in the effort to preserve the village's ancient cultural heritage.
