The Arizona Inn was Mies' preferred place to stay when he visited Tucson. Rumor was (I heard it from my sister's art history professor, who is one of Tucson's old traditional families) that Mies would sit in the shade and try to draw the very stepped courtyard plan in his sketchbook.
