May 1st will mark a new era for the Whitney when its brand new home along the High Line swings its doors open to the public for the first time. A project that has been decades in the making, the $422 million structure designed by Renzo Piano is a game changer for a museum that had long outgrown its Upper East Side space. — 6sqft.com

I wonder if some of the visual clutter (clips, rods, rails, tubes etc). is amped up just to appear more machine-like and less like a refined jewel box OR less like a diagram-building.
Can't wait for the first jumper:)
architecture is defined by action
Would I sound like a philistine if I said the building looks like a cheap gimmick, made to replicate something that Renzo dreamed up in the 70s? jeez
What's the gimmick? I can really sum up this building. Maybe the gimmick is actually non-gimmick.
It looks like a bad imitation of a Renzo, but a great building nonetheless.
So, are you saying to appreciate the building I have to committ murder?
Kimmelman is a dope but he's right that this building is good but not great, which is all i remember in that marketing flythrough he wrote captions for.
