Zaha, you have said that architecture is not for people who want an easy life. Is this not the case for anyone who wants to excel in his or her job?
There are other professions that are very difficult, but architecture is particularly difficult because your career is reliant on the people you work with, and that's the first hurdle. The second hurdle is the people you work with as a client. You have no control over the developer or the economics.

Nice interview and fun to read. I can relate to what she said about being Muslim, Middle Eastern, or perceived as one and what challenges are brought with those and, of course, extra challenge for her is being very well known and outspoken as a woman in an often discriminatory field.

Maybe not as an architect, but most certainly as a starchitect. Plenty of celebrities leverage their position to achieve what is not otherwise possible. I'd like to see Zaha do something other than bitch about it.
Zaha Hadid Limited Edition Z-Boat will sell for $457,000 a pop
^ I agree, unfortunately, if she was going to cash in one of her orange tickets, she would have done so already.
That boat looks straight out of a wave race game from the PS2 era. Maybe Zaha forgot to increase the poly count on her model.
ninny
i like her older stuff (the peak, cardiff bay opera house etc) so much more than her new crap
Found the point about no work in London interesting, reminds me of how long it took until Steven Holl did something in NYC. Wondering if it's because these are cities where lots of talent end up or because they are so historically engrained in a complex historical narrative that it takes years to get your foot in the door even if you are world famous?
More bitching. I don't have any work in London ... because I'm an Arab woman. Not because you are a horrendous architect.
That's one ugly boat.
For me she is one of the best in the world. I have been waiting to see her 100 Museum project to completed in Miami. It will be an art work!
