Archinect's Must-Do Picks for Archtober 2014 - Week 4 (Oct. 25-31)

Archtober–New York City's Architecture and Design Month–is back for another year. The anticipated month-long festival from Oct. 1-31, 2014 continues to grow with a variety of engaging exhibitions, conferences, films, tours, and other activities for all ages to celebrate the value of architecture and design in everyday life.

From the lengthy Archtober event calendar, we have our final list of highlights to take note of for Oct. 25-31:
- Day of Impact: Giving back through Architecture & Design | Oct. 25
Architecture for Humanity NY will host its first Day of Impact. This event will engage through short-term projects in NYC's boroughs. AFHny will extend resources and work with like-minded organizations to aid in areas of need and offer sustainable design solutions. - Louis Kahn Contemporary: Talk and Tour of FDR Four Freedoms Park | Oct. 26
William Whitaker, Curator of the Louis I. Kahn Collection at the University of Pennsylvania will lead a talk and tour of FDR Four Freedoms Park, Louis Kahn's posthumous work that was completed in 2012. Whitaker will speak about the project, its architect and and the challenge of monumental expression. - Landscape Design Portfolios Lecture Series – Lisa Switkin: The High Line and Beyond | Oct. 27
Landscape architect Lisa Switkin, principal at James Corner Field Operations, will speak about her working methods and design philosophy for key projects like the High Line and Domino Sugar Waterfront in New York, Tongva Park in Santa Monica, and Philadelphia's Race Street Pier. - Hansgrohe/Axor Presents: Das Design Ideas and Innovations | Oct. 28
Can showering have deeper benefits for the mind? Richard Grohe, Hansgrohe SE Deputy CEO and cognitive psychologist Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman will address how showering helps stimulate relaxation and promote creativity. Plus, Hansgrohe/Axor Das Design Competition winners will be announced. - Palaces and Ruin of Third Way Modernisation: The Legacy of Socialist Architecture and Urbanism in Yugoslavia | Oct. 28
A panel discussion about the new WWII style modern monuments along Yugoslavia's Coastline. Join William Menking (Architect's Newspaper, Pratt Institute) in conversation with Vladimir Kulić (Florida Atlantic University), Srdjan Jovanović Weiss (NY based Architect) and Michael Zinganel (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria). - Inside the New Whitney Museum | Oct. 29
The Whitney Museum of American Art will move in the Meatpacking District in spring 2015. Scott Newman -- partner at Cooper, Robertson & Partners and partner-in-charge of the new Whitney Museum in collaboration with Renzo Piano Building Workshop -- will give a sneak preview of the building’s interiors and design. - STHLMNYC Inaugural Event | Oct. 30
In this panel discussion, leading firms from Stockholm and New York will introduce STHLMNYC, a platform for collaborating on architecture and urban planning. - Walking Tour: Halloween Tour of Uptown Trinity Church Cemetery | Oct. 31
Get in the Halloween spirit by touring the historic Trinity Church Cemetery, described as Manhattan's ideal gothic seasonal getaway. Trinity Church Cemetery expert Eric K. Washington will lead the tour.
