Global architecture and engineering firm HOK will acquire Kansas City's 360 Architecture.
On Tuesday, the St. Louis-based firm announced that it will acquire the sports architecture-focused firm for an undisclosed price. The merger, expected to close by the end of October, will allow HOK to set up a new sports and entertainment practice staffed with experienced and established talent.

With the type of success Populous has had since splitting of from HOK I'm wondering how hard this new HOK sport is going to try and crush Populous. Same city, same specialty, probably has employees who've worked for Populous, gonna be interesting. I'm also wondering about the future of the sports and entertainment segment, it has been booming it seems, but these types of projects are fairly long term in their development and execution, not to mention the fact that they almost could be defined as infrastructure with their total lifespan. Add that to how much we're hearing about withering ticket sales for popular sporting events world wide, blamed on TV and high ticket prices, and we're looking at a future where sporting venues as we know them will either be unnecessary, or more akin to a sound stage than a gathering place.
