As dawn breaks over the Gulf of Fonseca, southeast of El Salvador, Patri Friedman sets out for a jog. He trots past domed hothouses filled with fruit trees and feels the sidewalk sway gently underfoot as a tugboat chugs by with a floating apartment building in tow. The year is 2024, and Friedman lives on a so-called seastead, a waterbound city of some 1,000 people who produce their own food, their own energy and -- most important -- their own laws. — bloomberg.com

Everything that needed to be said on this topic was done so 7 years ago, in China Mielville's piece Floating Utopias for In These Times. The best quote from the article:
Libertarianism, by contrast, is a theory of those who find it hard to avoid their taxes, who are too small, incompetent or insufficiently connected to win Iraq-reconstruction contracts, or otherwise chow at the state trough. In its maundering about a mythical ideal-type capitalism, libertarianism betrays its fear of actually existing capitalism, at which it cannot quite succeed. It is a philosophy of capitalist inadequacy.
when in doubt, ad hominem it out
I really can't imagine a more incorrect understanding of libertarianism.
That's a shit definition of libertarianism. I despise all isms. Any single ideology that claims to be a fix all solution is crazy. Each problem requires a different solution. I'm libertarian on many/most issues, but I do want someone making sure baby formula isn't contaminated, I want public infrastructure, schools... And don't really care about taxes as long as it goes towards something good. I'm personally more of a govt minimalist. Keep it simple.
Anyway, I can think of a much better application for such a boat that would involve weed, gambling, and all the fun things illegal on land. It would be awesome. Lol
does libertarianism mean you want support from other people when you need it, but you don't want to support them when they need it? as long as you get to choose which programs are good, i'm sure it will be fine.
keep government small. not so small that you don't get stuff, but small enough that you don't have to pay for others.
Nope. It means don't waste my money locking up pot heads, starting wars in far off lands, subsidizing billionare oil tycoons....Ill gladly pay taxes for things that benefit the public or even that help people in far off lands even if they don't benefit me in any way directly...schools, trains, etc... Don't waste my time/money with nonsense regulation like licensing African hair braiders or florists...Ill take my chances...do regulate air pollution and protect the owls and shit...don't tell me that I cant marry a dude (even though im not gay). Simple.
