By most measures, the museum, designed by Davis Brody Bond and Snøhetta, has met the difficult challenge of telling the emotionally charged story of 9/11 at Ground Zero. The gift shop, however, has detracted from the achievement, with tabloids and blogs lambasting the “darkness” hoodies, toy firetrucks, “survivor tree” earrings, and 9/11 cheese plate for sale in the gift shop. — businessweek.com

"has detracted from the achievement"
Replace "detracted" with "profited".
9/11: a financial opportunity on so many levels ...
U$A! U$A!
What's with the Mickey-Mouse balloons?
How about the 9/11 cheese plate?
Non Sequitur, that is odd. I guess NY really is turning into Disney land.
this gift shop is not in the museum. it is a block or two away from ground zero and is a starting location for tours and whatnot. this article is disingenuous.
wait, they start you out in the gift shop? At least at the museums they wait til your done having a good time to rape you with 40$ keychains.
I wonder how many people think the gift shop is the museum.
