Dear Archinect Community,
I have an unusual situation here and would like to ask if you can help me with it.
I have been attending my close friend Larry Totah's health situation over a year now.
Larry had a liver transplant four years ago and was doing fine, however, last year they found colon cancer and operated on him. Cancer has came back and his options are limited. Doctors are going to perform a bone marrow transplant to replace his infected white blood cells. This operation will put him out of any work for at least six months.
As you can imagine, he won't be able to earn any living and although he has an insurance that will cover some of his hospital and medical expenses, he doesn't have any other income. His family already depleted their resources in Texas and his older parents can no longer help him.
Larry is a long standing member of architectural community in Los Angeles and was a hall of famer in 80's and 90's designing many well known projects like Maxfield's store on Melrose and projects for Dustin Hoffman and Vidal Sassoon among many other high profile clients.
Architecture business has little loyalty. These people have dropped out of the scene and Larry has left with few loyal friends and legacy of good work he created.
Larry comes from the family of Christian (not that his religion matters) Palestinian immigrants and I have been his friend over twenty five years.
Recently I have been spending a lot of time with him in hospitals, chemotherapy rooms, in his apartment, occasionaly staying with him and cooking, making him laugh, etc. He is a fighter and still actively involved contributing to life.
He recently asked me if I can be helpful to get Archinect start a campaign of donations to help him survive the months ahead.
Can we?
Thanks for everything.
Orhan
