The idea behind renovating Kamini residence was to maximize access to daylight and natural ventilation within an introvert envelope while maintaining an open and inviting floor plan that accommodates all kinds of family activities. The fourth and fifth floor is occupied by the client where the fourth floor accommodates majority of the functions like the living room, dining, a large kitchen, guest bed and family space. The living, dining and kitchen is designed as an open plan with minimalistic furniture that both separate and envelope each space. The slanted Ferro cement sheet roof creates a lofty light weight space giving a rustic look with custom made wooden stairs connecting two floors. The fifth floor accommodates a small study that leads to the terrace and master bed through a cozy corridor along the double height opening. Strategic location of master bed terrace with operable glass awning windows ensures ample filtered daylight with visual access of the sky and greenery from the lower level creating spatial interconnection between two floors. Natural light penetrates from the top floor terrace filling the living-dining floor with natural light and ventilation. Despite the cramped urban conditions, Kamini residence interior is designed to feel light, airy and connected to nature which is reflected with the help of perforated bricks that creates a sense of openness throughout the interior.
