This project consists of the complete renovation of an existing 1790’s era house adjacent to the existing Concord Free Public Library building, with the addition of a wing connecting the two historic structures.
The connecting wing houses a new Children’s Library and Commons area, with a cafe and gathering space. The addition is constructed of an exposed glulam structure, echoing the exposed post-and-beam structure of the historic house.
The adaptive reuse of the house, wood structure, and a high-efficiency fossil-fuel-free heat pump HVAC are among the environmental strategies that are predicted to reduce energy use by 80% below baseline. The project has been warmly embraced by the community.
