The Statler Hilton/Dallas Grand Hotel will always be the premier piece of Mid Century Modern architecture in Downtown Dallas. It began in 1956 as a 1,001 room hotel and the place for the Who’s Who to stay when visiting Dallas, Texas. Its innovative systems and column free large ballrooms made it a unique conference and exhibit facility. The building is now even more prominent as its visibility has increased being a focal edge to the Main Street Garden Park it faces. We plan to find the hidden shine in the building again by cleaning the porcelain panel, glass and metal façade on all sides. The new use for the building will revisit its past with a boutique hotel and slender modern residences in the tower with fantastic views into the park and adjacent high rises. The lobby will once again have the modern style it once headlined the retail and restaurants at its base that will activate the street edge and energize its classic lobby. A new entry canopy of glass, steel and fabric will be introduced to the façade respecting the scale of the street edge with a look of the past and a feel for the future.
