Suprnova

RAW Deer + Almond Design Competition

Supernova: a stellar explosion that briefly outshines an entire galaxy, radiating as much energy as the Sun or any ordinary star is expected to emit over its entire life span, before fading from view over several weeks or months.

From a distance, an ethereal, densely packed, concentric assembly of rods hovers above the ice, inviting exploration. Intermittent light glows from the end of each protruding tube, suggesting an interior activity. Approaching further, a recessed aperture signals an entrance and moment of compression, defining a threshold and transition from the exterior to an illuminated and densely focused interior chamber.

An X-shaped table arrangement sits in the centre of a vortex of 1200 points of light, as if caught in the eye of a constellation. This light vortex extends vertically into a mirrored ceiling of reflective shrink wrap, doubling the height of the volume, and reflecting the activity of an immersive, concentrated, and convivial dining experience.

Embedded into the exterior vortex, a kitchen hums with activity, open, visible, and connected to the dining chamber, collapsing the typical separation of food preparation and dining experience. Servers orbit the chamber, assuring a seamless and coordinated service of food and beverage to the guests.
