The project is located in the heart of Qingdao’s New Urban Center, a new commercial zone and has a direct link to Qingdao’s new subway system. The planning and massing of this project is built around the premise of creating an exterior that indicates the movement of pedestrians and vehicles across the site and an interior that portrays the Capitamall signature shopping experience. The entries are oriented to facilitate direct access to the subway system on the Eastern edge of the site and the main car/taxi drop off on Heifei Road and taxi drop off on L2 on Tailiu Road. 

Spatially, the interior is structured around the soft form of the central object that holds dining locations on B2, L4 and L5/L6 levels. This object holds an interior garden space for open terrace style eating, which provides an area of nature, the sight of which from below attracts shoppers to the upper levels and the interior retail elements. 

The contrast of linear and curving storefronts makes for a continually changing spatial environment within the center, and thus creates a series of internal public spaces that can each have an interesting and unique character. The roof above the space is a structure which can accommodate both natural and artificial lighting in varying apertures which allow the control of light over the walkways and atrium spaces below.
