The Moray “Acorn” school is a small secondary school that will be commencing operation in 2013 on the grounds of Drumduan Field above Forres, Scotland.
Situated on a very sensitive site, the design minimizes the building’s connection with the ground. They are elevated on wooden posts above the sloping site, set back relative to the ridge of the hill, with only a wooden walkway separating them from the trees behind. The design costs are kept low by using standard, inexpensive and readily available elements for the structure. A green roof and vertical wooden cladding helps blend the building with the site, and the overall timber construction is in line with sustainable design principles.
