Habitat for Humanity’s Newark branch asked the studio to design new homes for them to build. A 100’ x 105’ site in Newark was chosen for multi-family units. Habitat Newark asked for 1500 sq. ft. units with 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2- 2 baths that cost under $100 per sq. ft. They also had to be energy efficient, reproducible, easily built by a team of volunteers, and must meet LEED guidelines. Two different scenarios were asked: one dividing the lot into 5 twenty-foot lots (A), and the other dividing them into 4 twenty-five foot lots(B). A design charette was held at NJIT with residents who live in Habitat Homes for their input.
