The scheme evolves from the idea that the complex has to include the volume of the hotel as a part of the composition. A feature of the Grand Melia Hotel’s tiered architectural look inspires, in spite of highly geometric nature, the design of the new towers.
The sweeping form of the Entry Lobby roof, so characteristic in vernacular Indonesian
Architecture, is used in the towers to generate a space which thermodynamically promotes the vertical movement of air and defines a formally intriguing open space shared by the two
buildings.
The differentiation between the two buildings is created by the simple operation of the inversion of the same form, which at the same time, establishes a degree of compositional relatedness.
It appears as if the two Towers are carefully holding the sensible and iconic shape of the
negative space. The orientation and the form of the towers have been carefully considered so that the relationship of the feature form of the towers to the existing Gran Melia Hotel is best viewed from the Gatot Subroto.
The ecologically sustainable scheme provides effective use of the space and flexibility in the office plan. The Towers achieve a formal resonance with the existing Gran Melia Hotel yet give the site a larger identity within the city.
