Las Vegas Express

The Las Vegas Express is an air-rail system located on the center of Las Vegas Boulevard. Acting off of the accounts in Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown’s “Learning from Las Vegas” my team and I thought the least obtrusive area for the train would be in the center of the road, rather than on either side which holds the city’s main experiential organization (the signage, fountains, and casinos). This allows the primary way of experiencing the city to remain as a mobile spectator, whereas before it was from a car or taxi, now it will be from the elevated train.

The structure of the track is supported by a suspension bridge, giving opportunity for larger spans and less distraction from views. The station’s structure is built within the parameter of the median and is supported by concrete columns with bifurcating steel beams to enhance stability. The station is also open to the outside but cooled and heated by an advanced louver system which opens and closes based on the local temperature, this is powered by prismalite solar panels located on the roof which also powers the electricity for the station as a whole.
