About the Firm

A young, design-focused architecture firm in Northeast Los Angeles with about 25-30 people seeks a Business Development Manager to join their firm. This firm has two studios, led by separate senior designers, with one focused on commercial development (specifically, adaptive-reuse and some new build) and the other on high-end residential in Los Angeles. They also provide interior design and landscape design services and are growing a small development wing within the company.

About the Role

You will work directly with the owner of the firm to manage existing clients in the commercial real estate development sector, follow up on leads for new work, steer the marketing of the firm, and engage with and support the staff and lead recruitment efforts. This role is for a people person who can gate keep the challenges of a demanding client and support a positive, fulfilling office culture and help it grow. This role has the potential to have a big voice in steering the marketing and branding of the firm and make huge contributions to the growth of this company. Internal and long-term growth in the company is desired, as this company pushes forward it’s brand awareness and project roster.


  • Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships
  • Build new client relationships from your existing professional network
  • Support the owner of the firm by sharing business development activities
  • Assist in developing a marketing direction for the firm with the Owner’s, PR and Marketing consultants
  • Leading the hiring and managing of Marketing professionals, as needed and agreed to by the Owners
  • Leading general recruitment of the firm
  • Engaging the firm with industry events, including giving presentations at conferences
  • Support and manage the staff of the office
  • Support a positive office culture

    Skills & Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience in Business Development in the AEC industry, ideally in the Los Angeles market
    • Excellent and tactful communication skills
    • Experience in managing commercial development clients
    • "People person” who loves to engage with architects and designers as much as they like to engage with clients
    • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
    • Experience in staff support, recruitment, and mentoring in the AEC industry
