Project Architect - Single Family Residential Design

McBride Architects is seeking to hire a Project Architect for their Single Family Residential practice. The Project Architect will act as a liaison to solve problems across multiple parties when they arise. The Project Architect will be the north star in guiding a construction project soup to nuts, from design to reality. The perfect candidate will have 11 - 15 years of experience in a United States architectural firm specializing in single-family residential.

The Project Architect will be responsible for: 

Tackling Complex Projects

Because of this role’s seniority, the Project Architect will often get assigned the most challenging projects. For instance, they will likely design and shepherd multiple residential projects from concept through to completion. Estimating costs, choosing materials, creating a time framework, and scheduling workers are some of the necessary tasks.

Seeking Input

Project Architects interact with clients to learn about their needs and objectives. They discuss ideas and strategies with other company leaders and solicit feedback from their team. They bring in consultants as needed to provide specific expertise. 

Ensuring Compliance

Plans must not only please the client but also comply with government regulations and zoning codes. Project Architects make sure that what is being constructed is legal and safe, involving research and consulting experts such as engineers and fire inspectors.

The right candidate will possess:

  • MArc in Architecture preferred.

  •  11-15 years of architectural/design experience, single-family residential focus preferred

  • Experience with AutoCAD, creating construction drawings, and an understanding of building codes for location-specific governmental regulations regarding design, construction

  • Ability to manage a team when serving as lead on high visibility projects 

  • Ability to interact and communicate with all clients, stakeholders, and external vendors (designers, contractors, consultants, etc.), ensuring that information gets delivered accurately, and everyone is on the same page

  • The instinct to provide feedback to subordinates to keep them motivated and to rectify small problems before they become large ones

  • Ability to multi-task to prioritize competing demands

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Industry knowledge in response to new technology, best practices, and changes in codes

  • Ability to put together full working drawing sets including knowledge of interior and exterior, detailing, millwork, and finishes
