Heitler Houstoun Architects, an award-winning Manhattan based Architecture and Interior Design firm, with a diverse portfolio of Residential, Retail (Apparel, Beauty, Wellness), Institutional, and Commercial projects is seeking talented and motivated Junior Architects with 0-3 years of post graduate, professional experience (5-year B. Arch or M. Arch) and/or at least, .5 years of pre-graduate internship experience.  The candidate should be local to the New York City area or able to move in a relatively short amount of time.  (no international applications please).  

Candidates should demonstrate experience in any of the following technical areas:

  • Required Computer Skills: Drafting (intermediate to advanced level AutoCAD), Modeling (intermediate to advanced level Google Sketch-up)
  • Documentation and Presentation: Drafting of Construction Documents (ability to convert Design Intent into Construction Documents), Presentation Production (ability to translate ideas / discussions / storyboards into formal presentations), Rendering / Material Mapping / Post-production graphics.
  • Visual Communications: Hand drawing, sketching/detailing, and/or color rendering (by hand or computer), abilities to quickly express creative ideas or technical details.
  • Written and Verbal Communication: Well-spoken both verbally and in written form, with the ability to effectively communicate within a project team structure.
  • Information Management: Measuring and Documenting Existing Conditions, Recording Critical Project Information in Meeting Minutes, Area Calculations (Leasing, Zoning, Building Code), Project Specifications Through Itemized Drawing Schedules)
  • Additional Computer Skills:  Modeling (Rhino/Revit), Rendering (V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion), Presentation (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign), Information Processing (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following personal attributes:

  • Ability to independently research and self-educate in unknown or unfamiliar areas of practice.  A self-motivated learner with the ability to identify, understand, process, and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to complete tasks accurately, review and proof your own work, and execute projects and/or tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively amongst a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stay organized, communicate, and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced deadline driven environment, including an ability to manage internal and external deadlines through personal time management.

Candidates may demonstrate basic knowledge in any of the following areas:

  • Accessibility Codes (Accessible Routes, Floor Clearances, Reach Ranges, etc)
  • Energy Conservation Codes (Lighting/Controls, Thermal Envelope Components, etc)
  • National Electric Code (Receptacle Placement)
  • Interior Environment Code (Light and Air, Materials)
  • Regulatory Approval Processes (Building Management, Landmarks, Building Department)

Candidates may have exposure to the following project types :

  • Retail Tenant Fit Outs – Health and Wellness, Beauty, Fitness, Apparel
  • New Construction – Single and Multi-family Residential, Institutional
  • Exterior Renovations –Multi-family (Brownstone) Residential and Single-Family Dwellings
  • Interior Renovations – Multifamily Residential Dwellings and Commercial Office

Compensation commensurate with experience and will fall within the range salary range for a professional with 2-4 years of post-graduate experience. HHA offers full-time employees an industry leading benefits package.
