SOM, one of the most influential design firms in the world, is seeking Healthcare Architects with 5-10 years’ experience (10+ will be considered) in the design and planning development of healthcare facilities.. Qualified candidates must be able to interpret quantitative healthcare programming information, generate alternative healthcare planning configurations, arrange and plan clinical spaces with coordinated equipment and fitout requirements, and work within a larger architecture and consultant team to develop the plans and spatial design from concept through CDs.  Must be familiar with healthcare planning standards and code requirements for healthcare and related facilities.  Experience with Evidence Based Design, Lean Process Design, and/or Integrated Facility Design is a plus.

Position provides broad opportunity to engage in all aspects of healthcare design, including inpatient, outpatient, and specialty facilities.  Must be able to work within a design-focused team of architects and consultants. 

Ideal candidate is trained as an architect, has worked on several healthcare projects – with one or more taken through construction.  REVIT and other design software capabilities are a considerable advantage. 


  • Completion of five-year or six-year architectural degree program
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in design development, architectural planning, documentation, and detailing of healthcare projects
  • Demonstrates general knowledge of architectural design, with a focus on healthcare innovation
  • Demonstrates practical knowledge of health facilities regulations and codes
