Job Description

The Project Architect is responsible for the management of significant aspects of entire projects. Responsibilities may include management of construction documents, material selections, specifications, agency filings. Maintains communication with the MA project team and consultants. Carries out the MA design approach while meeting projects goals and expectations. Has a working knowledge of and experience with construction techniques and national building and accessibility codes. Depending on the scale of the project, may also assume other responsibilities. Works independently and coordinates with the Project Manager to assure that the project is proceeding within the constraints of the budget and schedule.

Core Responsibilities

Project Planning (in conjunction with Project Manager):

  • Know the project contract, scope, deliverables and budget.
  • Know the project schedule (including phase deadlines, filing milestones, and meetings).
  • Know the staffing plan including staff roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate on overall design concepts and carry forward the established design direction.
  • Prepare detailed mock-up (or cartoon) set and assign staff accordingly.

Project Documentation

Manage the project documentation for all phases including models and renderings.

Monitor the documentation for compliance with building code and accessibility requirements.

Research and select appropriate materials and products.

Develop project specific construction details.

Communicate with the MA project team and consultants to ensure technically accurate and well‑coordinated documents consistent with the design intent.

Work with specifications writer to prepare comprehensive specifications.

Supervise subordinate team members.

Quality Control

  • Comply with MA Presentation Standards and Construction Documents Checklists.
  • Schedule QA/QC peer reviews.
  • Maintain Standard Server File Organization.
  • Ensure Archiving and BIM audits occur at regular intervals.

Construction Administration

Participate in onsite OAC meetings.

Review submittals for compliance with design intent and maintain log.

Respond to RFI's and maintain log.

Conduct site observations and prepare field reports.

Prepare punch lists.

Qualifications [for internal use and job postings]

Education:

Architecture school graduate, NYS registration or actively taking the Architectural Registration Examination. Other accreditation such as LEED® encouraged.

Experience:

7 or more years of experience with demonstrated ability to complete a wide range of project assignments with minimal supervision.

Skills: 

Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Modelling, Adobe Suite, MS Office
