Project Manager (Architecture Studio)

The Role

Project Managers are responsible for providing leadership to team members and primary day-to-day project administration and communication with clients, project teams and outside consultants in a manner consistent with firm-wide standards. They are responsible for carrying out the MA design approach while working on multiple complex projects. Meeting Client expectations while bringing assigned projects within the planned budget and timeline is a primary responsibility. Thorough knowledge and experience with construction techniques and national building and accessibility codes is required. Depending on the scale of the project, the Project Manager may also take on the responsibilities of the Project Architect. 

This role reports to the designated Studio Director.  


Project Planning (in conjunction with Studio Director):

  • Know the project contract, scope, deliverables and budget.
  • Establish and maintain project schedule (including phase deadlines, filing milestones and meetings).
  • Establish and maintain staffing plan (define team roles and responsibilities).
  • Assist Owner in assembling consultant team (writing/reviewing RFPs and proposals).

Project Administration:

  • Team Meetings 
    • Establish recurring staff, client and consultant meetings.
    • Distribute agendas, meeting minutes and track action items.
  • Internal Management 
    • Mentor, motivate and supervise project architects / designers. 
    • Provide regular design and project updates to Morris and Studio Directors.
    • Update marketing department to project status, while being sensitive to confidentiality.
  • Consultant Management  
    • Lead consultant coordination amongst all disciplines. 
    • Foster cross discipline communication. 
  • Financial Management 
    • Monitor project budget and staffing to know the project’s financial status.
    • Update project schedule as required, and evaluate budget impact.
  • Client Management 
    • Be the primary point of contact, manage expectations and ensure satisfaction. 
    • Manage "scope creep"; alert Studio Director/Client to additional services in advance of services.
    • Obtain client sign-off at the end of each phase.
  • Contractor Management 
    • Be the primary point of contact for RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.
    • Notify Studio Director about all signed/seal documents before distribution.
    • Know the contractor’s contract responsibilities.

Quality Control:

  • Comply with MA Presentation Standards and Construction Documents Checklists.
  • Schedule QA/QC peer reviews after each design phase.
  • Ensure consultant sets are reviewed and coordinated after each phase.
  • Maintain Project Binders and Standard Server File Organization.
  • Ensure Archiving and BIM checks occur at regular intervals.


Education:     Architecture school graduate, NYS registration. Other accreditations such as LEED® encouraged.

Experience:   10 or more years of experience with demonstrated ability to manage multiple and/or complex projects through all phases.
