Life Floor is a rapidly growing, Minneapolis-based growth-stage company that is shaking up the aquatic recreation industry. Our purpose-driven team makes Life Floor tiles, a revolutionary product that is changing the way people design and interact with splash pads, water parks, cruise ships, and other aquatic spaces. We serve customers like Great Wolf Lodge, LEGOLAND, and Carnival Cruise Lines, and recently completed a project to onshore manufacturing to the United States. Check out the opening video on our website www.lifefloor.com/what-is-life-floor for more information.

Life Floor is looking for a Design Liaison to represent our unique Studio division in partnerships with architecture and design firms with the intent to keep them up-to-date and informed of our product’s design capabilities and possibilities. The Studio is Life Floor’s virtual design shop, an internal design agency within our larger organization. Studio members are responsible for advocating design and design literacy within the company’s team, guiding Life Floor’s product and industrial design, designing Life Floor installations, and supporting partner architects and designers in completing projects for customers. Studio members work independently, but come together weekly and quarterly in a collegial atmosphere with the goal of creating high-quality and authentic design solutions via critique, encouragement, and communal brainstorming.

The Design Liaison will be the point-person for design-related communications with partnering architecture and design firms. Over the past 7 years, Life Floor has developed an unmatched reputation as the leader in design within the aquatics surfacing space. The Design Liaison will be responsible for equipping external firms with everything they need to design with Life Floor. Specifically, they will be tasked with communicating the design possibilities of our product as well as best practices when designing with Life Floor. These conversations will be facilitated by virtual and in-person presentations, meetings, and communications geared to build relationships and design literacy. It is expected that the Design Liaison will spend approximately 30-40% of their time traveling to the offices of external firms.

Because the Design Liaison will be representing our Studio division and educating fellow designers, this position requires the ability to complete Life Floor installation designs as part of our growing portfolio of projects. The Design Liaison will need to know how we provide design solutions to our strategic partners and customers and must be literate and experienced in AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator. They will be responsible for communicating our existing process to partnering firms and training them as necessary.

The Design Liaison will be Life Floor’s primary design representative to architecture and design firms. As a result, they will work with the Chief Creative Officer (Creative Director) and Studio Director to ensure that Life Floor’s Studio, products, and design offerings are accurately represented. The Design Liaison will occasionally work with the CEO and Sales division to ensure that key relationships are appropriately created and maintained.

With the Studio Director’s guidance, the Design Liaison will be accountable for the roles described above. They should be self-starting, skilled at presenting to large groups, experienced at maintaining external relationships, and can expect to exercise a high level of independence in generating installation designs, either by themselves or with the assistance of other team members.

Management of External Design Relationships:

  • Coordination of on-site “lunch and learn” sessions with key architectural and design firms that are interested in or already have experience designing with Life Floor

  • Education of partnering architectural and design firms - introducing them and keeping them up-to-date on possibilities, recommendations, and best practices when designing with Life Floor

  • Maintenance of key relationships to provide information, product updates, and design assistance

Life Floor Installation Design:

  • Accountability for providing design solutions to our strategic partners and customers

  • Independent design of Life Floor installations under the oversight of the Studio Director

  • Ability to take creative direction, respond to and incorporate critical notes professionally, and meet deadlines

The Studio Liaison may also assist on:

  • Ideation of design-related print collateral and web content

  • Product design and development

The ideal Studio Liaison is someone who has familiarity with all or most of these roles by working at a similar position in either a design firm or at a company that deals with design-focused products. It is preferable that the candidate has experience in related fields such as aquatic design, theme park design, landscape design, surface design, or tile design. They should be able to work well both as a traveling representative of Life Floor and as a designer within our creative Studio team.

The ideal candidate is available for 30-40 hours a week and is looking for full-time employment. This position is eligible for benefits.

While the ideal candidate will live in the Los Angeles area, this position is intended to largely be traveled-based and may be remote to both the Studio Director and the Life Floor office. As such, a high level of organization, self-discipline, and creative problem solving is necessary. A passion for design and design literacy is an absolute must. The position is likely perfect for a candidate who is interested both in collaborating with external partners and working on internal design projects while working independently. The culture of the Life Floor Studio is such that all Studio members are currently remote; however it is anticipated that an office dedicated to the Studio division will be established in Los Angeles within the next year.

Life Floor is in the process of rapid growth, and as such, the successful candidate can expect opportunities for both advancement and specialization, depending on their interests and the needs of the company going forward.
