We are currently seeking a full time Sustainable Design Specialist who reports to the Director of Sustainability. This person will work closely with project teams to advance project sustainability initiatives including LEED, WELL and Passive House Certification, research, and performance based-design via Environmental Analysis.  S/he will help build upon the firm’s expertise in sustainability by acting as a resource in this field, as well as helping to implement specific sustainability-related measures.

Responsibilities include:

  • LEED and WELL analysis, documentation and project coordination.
  • Sustainability-related research, including materials, technologies, systems, and urban strategies.
  • Environmental analysis, including climate, solar, daylight and thermal analysis.
  • Serving as a resource to Studio Sustainability Leaders and staff on sustainability related-questions.
  • Elaboration of sustainable design guidelines, charrette administration, project sustainability narratives and diagrams, sustainability presentations, and post-occupancy evaluations.
  • Assist in leadership of FXCollaboratives’s sustainability workgroup, Team Green.
  • Working with the Librarian to disseminate information on sustainable materials and references.
  • Working with the Technical Director to improve sustainability requirements in project specifications.
  • Working with the Design Technology Director to integrate environmental analysis into workflows.
  • Organizing LEED and WELL training, analysis training, and general sustainability education.
  • Representing FXCollaborative at various sustainability professional events.

Position Requirements:

  • Well versed in the principles of sustainable design and environmental analysis.
  • LEED Accredited Professional with Specialty (BD+C or ID+C) with LEED project experience.
  • Graduate of Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
  • 3-5 years of work experience related to sustainability and the built environment, with prior experience in LEED project management and building performance simulation.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and AutoCad.
  • Experience with environmental analysis software such as Ladybug, HoneyBee, DIVA, Therm, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal, graphic, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize & multi-task on multiple projects.
  • Must be proactive, analytical, detail-oriented and a self-starter.
  • Must be hardworking and a team player.
  • Must be professional at all times.
  • Familiarity with the New York City Energy Conservation Code preferred.
  • Experience with Revit preferred.
  • WELL AP, FitWell and/or Certified Passive House Designer are an asset.
  • Experience with Energy Modeling software such as PHPP, WUFI Passive and/or EQuest is an asset.
