Martinez+Johnson Architecture – a New York City and Washington, DC based architectural design firm is seeking a Project Architect for its NYC office.  The firm is a nationally recognized design leader with expertise in the planning and design of world-class performing arts venues. 

With a professional working relationship spanning three decades, Gary F. Martinez, FAIA and Thomas E. Johnson, FAIA founded Martinez+Johnson Architecture in 1994 to bring their design sensitivities to cultural arts and institutional projects.  Their work is highly regarded and received numerous awards.  M+J’s design has played a pivotal role in enhancing community vitality across the country with institutional + cultural facilities.

Candidates for the position must exhibit an ability to contribute to an energetic, fast-paced creative process.  This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative studio environment.  We offer the unique opportunity to work on a remarkable range of NYC cultural projects in a collaborative environment.  The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and talented architect with strong leadership qualities.  The primary role will be to plan, organize, and manage the efforts of the design and production team and to provide technical leadership relating to the production of quality contract documents based on larger design goals and job specific requirements. Candidates must be located in the New York City metropolitan area.

Minimum Requirements

Fluency in English, spoken and written; Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office is required. Ability to use 3D modeling software is preferred; Supervise and manage the completion of all design phases on schedule and within budget; Manage the activities of a design and production team daily; Deliver high quality presentation, design drawings and construction documents that can be easily interpreted by government agencies and easily utilized by contractors; Manage client relationships in a manner that leads to satisfaction, great design, and repeat business; Coordinate effectively with technical consultants including but not limited to: structural engineers, MEP engineers, civil engineers, and landscape architects

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

Professional degree in architecture and professional registration; Minimum 8-12 years of experience in architectural practice; Extensive knowledge of architectural detailing, current construction standards, and building systems
