The building is composed by two major elements: one central square prism, in which the museum facilities are placed; and one linear circulation volume placed in the fringe of that prism through which the public vertical circulation and communication is made.
These two volumes correspond to two different skins: the first is represented by patent concrete; the second is covered by a geometric pattern, inspired on the traditional lace drawings, materialized in a net of white aluminium profiles, covering a glass surface. The toughness of the concrete skin, classic material of the modern architecture, is compensated by the gracefulness of the lace pattern, which is a typical element in fashion. This balance between the poetic of architecture and fashion makes the skin one of the project’s main theme. This skin becomes an element of spatial separation gifted with a conceptual meaning, allowing a programmatic reading of the building, as a volume.
The height distribution of the program obeys to a compositive criteria, where the skin plays a fundamental role. The several spaces are distributed in three areas with different volumetric expressions: base, body and top. In the gaps of this core emerge the terraces and the Japanese garden, which appear as a subtraction of the internal prism mass.
