AJUDA HOUSE REQUALIFICATION

The building is located in Ajuda, Lisbon. It’s a neighborhood inhabited by a largely aging population, and marked by the proximity of several university centers. The goal is to install a student residence in order to encourage the fixation of youth population.

The facades of the existing building are retained and a new floor is added in order to homogenize the profile of the road and increase the available area.
Intended to merge the new and the old but without any mimetic approach, the metric and the materiality of the ground floor was maintained by keeping windows and its stone masonry, and the new floor was covered in corten steel with protruding windows  on the facade.

The entrance is at the ground floor, which are privileged areas of common use - living room and kitchen. The seven rooms are distributed among the remaining floors, all of them with natural lighting and ventilation.
