Peter Cooper Village / Stuyvesant Town is a large private residential development located on the east side of Manhattan, with three consecutive blocks of commercial storefront along a heavily trafficked avenue. Built in the East Village in the 1940's, the property required a comprehensive update to their storefronts which reflected several different eras of retailers' facades.
The final design incorporated a steel bar grille that served as a sleek armature for the retail signage while concealing the existing stone facade and louvers above the glass storefront. The project required intensive logistics and construction administration, as the retail spaces were required to remain operational as much as possible.
