Jefferson Hall celebrates the charge to provide a building of quality and character that will be perceived as a progression of past success that also leads to future opportunities. It reinterprets the campus’s Military Gothic architecture for the 21st century. Sited on the edge of West Point’s historic training field, parade ground, and athletic space, known as “the Plain,” the building connects to the neighboring structures through its shape, form, and materials. Motifs from cadet uniforms, military medals, seals and inscriptions, provide decorative highlights throughout the building, firmly connecting this forward-looking building to the Academy’s rich traditions.
A new environment for the pursuit of academic excellence unlike any other on campus, with panoramic vistas of the Hudson River valley, the library nourishes the spirits of cadets. Providing stewardship of the environment, the library meets bronze SPiRiT certification, a Government initiated sustainability program. Offering an ecologically conscious learning setting that nourishes the cadets’ minds, the building takes advantage of many environmentally friendly strategies such as building orientation, material choices, and implementation of building systems that aid resource conservation.
