St. Hilda's College

Gort Scott won a challenging invited competition to redefine the central spaces of the St Hilda’s College campus. The proposal consists of a masterplan for the estate and delivery of two key, new buildings.

St. Hilda’s college has evolved organically over time to create a loose collection of characterful buildings set in beautiful informal gardens along the river. This scheme will create an entirely new way of entering and navigating the college. An open central courtyard and routes to the wider landscape will connect student and visitor accommodation, and a significant new teaching and function pavilion by the river.

The sequence of open spaces and articulation of the building elements are intended to represent the values of transparency and inclusivity, central to the College. Due to start on site in 2017, the project will require extensive understanding of the historic context and consultation with the college, council officers and conservation and environmental specialists.
