Fort Lauderdale, FL
RENAISSANCE CENTER, a prefabricated modular affordable housing development by The Healthy Housing Foundation, is a direct and urgent response to the homelessness crisis located in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles.
The future resident includes unhoused single adults. The building includes 216 residential micro-units using prefabricated volumetric steel frame modular construction approach for an urban core model typology. Within the building, spaces for resident supportive services include two interior meeting rooms and a large elevated exterior deck comprised of three-unit modules and interior administrative and leasing offices. Resident community areas include laundry, a lounge area and two landscaped courtyards.
To meet the project sustainability goals, project design includes passive and active cooling strategies, low VOC materials, low energy and low resource consumption fixtures and equipment, and solar panel options for electricity savings. The prefabricated modular construction approach reduces material waste, increases quality and speeds up construction, resulting in less impact on the environment.
The building addresses the street through active uses, located in transparent spaces on the two street elevations of San Julian and 7th Street.
“Since 2017, Glavovic Studio has been working with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and the Healthy Housing Foundation addressing the global homeless and affordable housing crisis through intensive collaborative design processes. This development seeks to encourage high-quality, durable, long term, sustainable, permanent supportive environments for persons experiencing housing affordability challenges.”
