I am an architect working on a mining reclamation project looking for any new ideas for reclaim, reuse, grants, funding. Reclamation of hard rock mines seems to fall between the cracks, funding is available for coal mine reclamation, but none for hardrock, at least in idaho. Pictures of the reclamation can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/home
Initial architectural plans call for a passive solar home, zero energy w/ micro-hydro, evapotranspiration septic graywater system.
thanks for any ideas
This isn't a project reference per se, but for inspiration and some background research, you might look at Alan Berger's book Reclaiming the American West which features some absolutely stunning photographs of abandoned mining sites and thoughts on the future of these sites.
Berger teaches at MIT. You can find more about his work here

thanks, i have seen Julie's work, big budget, this is more of a shovel in the ground project so to speak...I am thinking more along the idea of land art, somehow an overlay showing the story of the place from mining devastation through reclamation toward a sustainable food source possibly

Sounds fun. Wanna fix that picasa link for us so we can see?
Julie Bargman has done a few mine reclamation projects that have been built. Don't think Berger has done much beyond paper (but I still like his work)

see the recent work on Restor, it is one of 2 sites in Idaho. Restor is a kind of hard web site to figure out, but interesting when you do..
