I would first check to see if any of the m. arch options you are considering would even accept transfer credits.

not planning on transferring, already checked, would apply totally fresh as a first year applicant. Some schools said I may be able to pass out of courses, which would just give me more electives at the next school, which I view as a plus.

Go to IIT,

and dont take the studios with the crazy designy professors, aka (easy studios), take studios with mies's ex students before the dean pisses them off and they all retire.

I got one involved on a project with Giannoulias. It didn't go anywhere but I realized how much I have grown and changed since school. And for the better...

Why would you do this at all? This sounds like a total waste of money. Arch school is very expensive, as you can tell from reading this board...

my professors were all either students of Mies, some of my other professors were not directly taught by Mies, but they were all very good professors. I know Professor Sharpe recently retired. Its too bad the college lost one of its treasures. Well Make, there are Professor's Takeuchi, Karaidis, Beltemacchi (taught by Hilbsheimer), Schippreit (whom im not sure was a student but he did know Mies), Roesch, There are others, let me be clear. You will get the most out of IIT if you work hard enough and have an open mind. IIT was the best architecture experience while i was there, Its program was flexible enough to accommodate students that wanted to get into other experimental theory, or we could go take studios where we learn more than just theory, but how to make a good building.

Make, you got to remember not all these veterans want to do anymore charity work or public work, they have been there and done that, now they just want to teach. Id recommend you go talk to the younger professors that still feel they have something to prove.

Anyways its good that you have grown, and changed since college. Why do people call it School? we payed way too much to say school.

And Make of course we all change, but the foundation you build at IIT will always serve you.

So simple - UWM. Lower cost, lower living expenses in Milwaukee, safer neighborhood and nicer ambience, and likely comparable school studio experience for only one year of architectural school. After two months, you'll know if you want to transfer out, stay, or quit architecture altogether.

It really doesn't matter where you go to school, once you've graduated. But ask both school admissions offices where their graduates work, and ask to speak to several recent grads.

I'm surprised that the "Mies student" professors are still at IIT; they must be very old at this point. Their rote instruction of Mies' design idiom was largely simple duplication of Mies' design motifs.

College, is just one step, but having worked in this profession more than a few years now, i do think it matters what kind of professors you have, never mind the Cheap shot that chicagoarchitect took at IIT, its something i have gotten used to through out the years, kind of envy or jelousy i dont know, some people wish they went to IIT.

First, I agree with manta: in some ways this seems like a waste of money.

But you also need to think strategically. Your portfolio a year from now will contain projects from a school you are choosing to leave. Let's say you're applying to Harvard: what would they think of a student who is abandoning IIT vs. UWM? Or the bigger question: will leaving a school, any school, to pursue another reflect positively or negatively on your application?

Shame on you Chicago Architect, bashing your own almamater, you must have been one of those crazy design students who thought the sun rose and set around them each morning. Why did you go to IIT anyway? probably just got a better financial deal or something? just wondering ive heard so many reasons why unhappy IIT students are there, and it comes down to that they are there by some dumb luck.

Can anyone speak on Notre Dame and how their graduates do in the job hunt after graduation?
