USC vs. University of Virginia

mmcheng

My son  has been accepted by both USC school of Architecture and University of Virginia school of architecture. We cannot decide which one he should attend.

However, the University of Virginia offered him full scholarship while USC only offered him 1/2 of cost of university grant. UVA has only 4 year B.S in architecture while USC has 5 years BAch program.

We don't know if UVA has any IDP while my son studies his 4 year degree.

Which school has better architecture program?

UVA is a great program, with a dedicated teaching faculty.  The program is housed in a very interdisciplinary design school and he will be exposed to faculty and graduate students in all of the departments.  You also have access to the wonderful campus and institution as a whole.  However, if your son would like to become licensed he will need to attend graduate school (UVA alumni are well represented throughout all of the elite graduate programs and not having any debt out of college will allow him to have wider options financially in terms of attending graduate schools).  The alumni network is also very helpful for employment after school.

i think with a 4 year B.S in architecture you still have to go through M.ARCH a program to get licensed if your son is still into architecture by then.

that route will probably be a 4+3 = 7 year, maybe 6 if he gets placed in advance placement.

with USC, he can just go straight into taking the license exam after he graduates.

just 5 year.

and USC undergrad is strong by the way. WAY stronger than graduate program. And dont underestimate the trojan network too.
