A friend of a friend who is an NHL player is traveling to NY for the Olympic break and is looking for some interesting off-the-beaten-path galleries to make some purchases.
he can probably pick it out himself, since hockey players seem to have such an eye for good design. exhibit a: Brooks Laich's 'crib': www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOB_wiMFNM0
i'd say he could buy from me first: cheap! (compared to galleries)

but otherwise there are all kinds of galleries all over new york.
a recentish trend are all the small galleries coming up in the lower east side/chinatown. ludlow and orchard street have ten or so galleries on them below delancey.
williamsburg has a lot of new galleries as well...and then of course there's chelsea. if he's an nhl player he could probably buy from any of them.
does he know where he wants to look or what kind of art he wants?
To be honest I don't know what he wants, which makes it difficult for me to post such a vague request.
I'm assuming he is looking for something "conventional" as in paint on canvas or a photograph as opposed to something avant garde like a gold fish in a blender.
I've been to Bridge Gallery on Orchard when they had some rapid prototyping/cnc stuff by architects... do you have names of other galleries in the area?
don't have names..but there are a ton of them...that'd be a good google map to make actually...and i'll probably do that in the next few weeks.
just tell him to go down ludlow, essex and orchard between canal and delancey..in the past two years or so i'd say about 15-20 small galleries have opened up.
if he's into contemporary art from emerging international artists, then maybe he should check shaquille o'neal's show...seriously, shaq is a curator now
NHL player looking for Art

Any suggestions.
So some guy is looking for art in NY in the next two weeks?
Why all the useless info?
Have you heard of context?
has he been to the nhl store?

sorry, it's just that my love for architecture and hockey rarely intersect and I'm having fun at hockey's expense.
with that said, there are some very beautifully designed ice rinks around the world. sorry, no thoughts on your friend's art buying. goodluck!

That's exactly why he's looking for help... not sure Per is the answer.

Hockey goalies are the designers... all other positions are too macho to have any "eye"

He just missed the outsider art exhibit in NY. I saw the add in the Sunday NYT's. Bummer if I had money to spend, I would toss it at outsider art.
