wow. regresty is hilarious. and since i've never checked out etsy, i only had a vague picture in my head about what it's like. that vague picture has now been made horribly clear!
ok, i can't look away now. i found a sconce made from the whole skin and talons of a chicken. the description reads as follows:
The installation “Neither fuzz, nor plumage” was inspired by ecologic catastrophe- pandemic flu. This anomaly has happened to humanity looks to me like diagnosis of the modern world society. Chicken- poly-semantic and associative object. By choosing it I was trying think ironically relating to moral changes of the world.
so what i really want to know is: is there an architecture student out there somewhere making chicken skin lamps?
One of my fellow 09 grads has been unable to get a job in architecture but has been doing quite well for herself on Esty. They take a cut from your sales but its a great way to get your products out there. Last I heard she got picked up by a few boutique stores and now sells direct.
yah that notorious NYT article profiled a former architect/now design professional in MPLS who sells felt laptop accessories on Etsy as a second career. It can be done, but its hard to sift through the bullshit
i've thought about it.
There are some beautiful objects out there, but you have to sift through lots of crap. I think it works best with a sort of outside marketing thing like a blog.
But, really most people don't make any money at it - this an interesting perspective
There should [and probably is] a similar website that is a little more curated. Lets say the website is only for architects [as sellers] and someone chooses what is included...
[ps. this is not a hint from me - I am not setting up an etsy-alike]
Etsy
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone here is a seller on Etsy, or if you know anyone on it. Keen to see what your experiences and thoughts are.

I know a girl who makes cocktail dresses out of pig intestines.
