3D terrain for routing

Alan

I'm trying to build a 1:100 model with a base 600x600mm with a sort of generic terrain sloping downwards in one direction approx. 40-50mm. (The scheme is ostensibly located in a forested setting in Oregon) I will be using a fancy router and either a block of douglas fir or pine wood (70mm thick) or maybe High Density Urethane foam (which, if you know, is solid and cuts really crisply). I understand the router has 0.1-0.5 mm precision.

I need to find a generic terrain (ideally with minimal adaptation) suitable to the above. I use Rhino and the router has a proprietary software. Anyone have any suggestions about sources and techniques or even a file you want to donate?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

fake some contours, then loft in rhino for a terrain surface.
then export to iges or whatever format the router software will accept.
keep in mind, your bit size, and the time you want to sit there, will probably mean you're not going to end up w/ 0.1 mm precision. Precisely generic? seems contradictory anyhow. you could also just paper mache it w/ the comics section. wooded area, newspaper--too ironic. I would just drop out. no, too reactionary. Definitely go w/ the foam.

LML, ROTFL. That is the best snarky response to snark I've seen in a long while. :-)
