So I'm in kind of a desperate need for a job this semester and I'm open to just about anyone that will hire me. I have of over years worth of experience of in drafting for a combination of two different firms and I've been taking drafting classes sense high school. Anyway, all that to say that I've had some experience with AutoCAD and working in the field. I was hopping for some help on where to look in Houston. I'm open to any suggestion. My old boss back in Abilene recommend I look into one of the big firms in Houston so I could get the experience of working in a large architecture firm, but in this economy, I can't afford to be that picky. Really, I'm not even strictly looking for an architecture firm. My old boss also suggested looking into civil engineering because I did quite a bit of drafting for civil engineering work at his firm and said many of those firms will hire just about anyone for low level drafting experience with the slightest bit of civil engineering drafting. The problem is I can name a few of the architecture firms in Houston, but I don't know of any civil engineering (or engineering firms for that matter) in Houston. Any suggestions? Also what are some of the interesting up and coming small firms that might be a good experience for an architecture student? If I can't get a drafting job, what other jobs might be good experience for an architecture student? I was able to find an internship fairly easily in the other two small towns I lived in, but I don't even know where to start in Houston. So any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You can at least gauge which firms are hiring...even if they don't list a drafting position, the fact that they're even hiring at all is a good sign, I guess.
Also, search the threads. There have def. been discussions on Houston firms before.
