Portfolios

saltymoob

I am trying to enter the University of Waterloo's undergraduate program in architecure next semester and I am not 100% sure what should be in it, I have taken a autoCAD course and done some wood working. I am wondering if that is all i need or I if should do some paintings or photography.

AutoCAD no, wood working yes.

I can tell you they will not care to see AutoCAD drawings, but will enjoy your wood working.

Oh sorry, and yes paintings, drawings, models, photography, sculptures, recordings of you playing music, videos of any performances you've been in, etc...

Usually undergrad don't require portfolio, they just look at your GPA and ACT scores... a number of people in my undergrad program received all paid scholarship to attend but they didn't even have portfolio when they applied.

I'm currently at the University of Waterloo and yes you need a portfolio. If selected (based on marks, an application with a few small essays about yourself, etc,) you go for an interview where you will be required to have a portfolio. The interview is about 40 minutes long. That day you'll also have to write an english precis exam.

Good luck.

Here's a great review of Waterloo's architecture program to see what you're getting into. There's a paragraph about the Precis test and what to expect.

Hopefully, there'll be more schools in the future.
