I went to LA last weekend to check out the school and the program. Luckily, they were holding a forum regarding a recent international design competition that was sponsored by the program. I was very very impressed with the program directors as well as the topics discussed. I am very much interested in the concept of Future Initiatives-I got the impression that the point is not urban design, but more so the reality that the systems required to solve city problems are a function of many things-not necessarily resolved by "urban design/planning."
The program is 1.5 yrs long. The work is done in a design studio environment.
Anyone else familiar with and/or applying or have interest in doing so?
It was my first trip to LA (yeah, yeah) and I loved it.
I'm very curious about the program. I've researched it and it seems to resemble Columbia's MSAUD more than any other I have seen. Are you familiar with this program?
i am seriously considering the program for the staff alone, and LA. i dont really know very much about it though. i am more interested in the mediascapes program, but no one on archinect seems to know anything about that program either.
It is price wise much more reasonable than other more notable post-professional programs
The post makes it seem like it is either newish or just doesn't get the notoriety of other places.....not necessarily a knock on the program itself tho.
It is new, I think about 3 years now.
I don't know what exactly it will lead to professionally but everyone I know who's been involved seems to love it.
I'm not the best source but it seems to be well suited for people with some technical visualization know-how to apply their skills to contemporary issues.
Post Grad-SCIFI Program at SCI-Arc
So, I am applying. Everything is due in March.

I've noticed they are advertising for students on craigslist & dezeen jobs boards. This is either brilliant or whiffs of desperation.
are you speaking of the scifi or mediascapes program FOG?

Ok, I really don't know what I'm talking about. I got things mixed up with their mediascapes program.
SCI-FI's been around longer but I really don't know much about it.
