With all of this talk about graduate school and astronomical debts coming out of them, are there any programs that give out scholarships, fellowships or grants in significant quantities?
I imagine that this is rare because of the lack of practical research being done, thus private industry is not putting their money behind advancements in the discipline (save some green building initiatives).
Employers paying for grad school?
Any good scholarship resources for architecture students?
Most schools have some proportion of merit and need based scholarship. They also tend to be cagey about how much they give, as the decision process is part of the culture of the faculty.
Most of the research support in Architecture is going to faculty leave time, and PhD students. Professional students don't generally have much time for research that advances the discipline -- or know enough yet to do any. Most private industry that can afford practical research also doesn't want to deal with the IP issues that become involved when students do the work.
Plus, grad students expect a much higher standard of living than interns.
My sense was that those at my schools that got substantial scholarships got them because they had done something to stand out considerably prior to their application. For example, one person had published three books on office design.
