gbu

Hey, I just heard that Jan Wampler (head of undergrad program) and Yung Ho Chang (head of grad) BOTH are stepping down after the end of this semester.

I'm out of the country...does anyone have the lowdown on this?

Who will be the new dean for the grad program? Does anyone know what the grad program is like there in terms of diversity of design theory, feel of studio culture, connections to professionals in field, and how much financial aid is available for graduates?

Yung Ho Chang is serving as the head (rather than Dean; Dean is Adele Santos) of the Department of the Architecture. Rumors say that he actually prefers spending more time in studio teaching than administrative work.

The "aggressive acquisition" of professors during the last two three years have brought a number of good teachers who are truly devoted to transform the school for a much stronger presence within the architectural discipline. Among these people, many of them are serving as coordinators of degree programs or classes, and certainly promising candidates for the positions that lead the school.

MIT is probably the most generous institution for admission and merit-based scholarships, often offering half or full tuition support.

Other than unique features like the inventive Media Lab and the sophisticated building technology and computational classes, the school is in general very similar to GSD or yale, columbia, upenn princeton...etc There has been a new phenomenon that the academic institutions are loving each other and having a sort of consensus of what the pedagogy should be. This is probably a result of media propagation or frequent exchange of faculty.... and this is certainly worth another discussion.
