the one and only 'gift' a former student gave me was a bottle of wine after he got into the school of his choice (one of those elitist ivy schools). gift was for the letter i wrote. personally, i thought it was a great gesture but by no means have i ever expected anything except an update on whether the student got in (and i've written dozens of letters over the years).
thank you gifts to professors who write LOR in support of your apps?
first of all, is it inappropriate? i think it's a nice gesture, but some have told me it is their job/not appropriate.
second of all, if you DO think it's appropriate, what kinds of gifts would you give/have you given to professors?
I take envelopes stuffed with small bills Dan Rostenkowski style!
its their job. what else do they have going on?

how about a happy ending?
Your future success is the best 'thank you'. You don't need to do anything but keep in touch.
Yeah, second what Barry said, work hard, work well, and stay in touch, that's all that's necessary.
nothing, and i mean nothing, says thank you like a can of spam.
original or low-sodium?
