Yes, I am going the cheap route.I've been trying a couple of rendering softwares for sketchup, like idxrenditioner and Vray. Vray obviously being the better one. My question is, are there any other photorealistic plug-ins that some of you have tried, and can recommend? I am kind of budgeted on money. I would prefer it being a little user-friendly with access to easy to find tutorials. Thanks
since you're already considering VRay: I suggest Maxwell. It's user friendly and based on real-world settings so you'll spend less time with scene set-up and it's physically accurate
vray is perfect for sketchup! you can use sketchup's own sun (real time shadow) for vray. In addition, each material can have both sketchup material and vray material property!!!
maxwell for sketchup is not user-friendly to me since you have to export the sketchup as a mesh and render it in maxwell studio
I just had to toss this in. I got Kerkythea less than a week ago. I have no experience in rendering besides an informal SketchUp education. Nonetheless, I am rendering photoreal like there's no tomorrow. KT is free, EASY, and awesome.
how does kerkythea compare to vray in terms of ease of use and the rendering workflow?
one of the nice things about vray for sketchup is that it is a plug-in... you render from sketchup... it's just a few added tools within the sketchup interface that allow you to render from within sketchup... place lights in sketchup, etc...
how easily does your sketchup model import? do your camera views and materials import? what if you need to change your model, do you edit it in kerkythea or can you continue to work in sketchup? do you need to reapply materials and lights, etc. after exporting?

vray for sketchup is seamless and easy to use
We have had good success with Artlantis, but I have no idea how much it costs.
kerkythea has been good to me. It's open source, free, runs on windows and OSX.

yes, vray is the best for architectural visualization, I have been using it with 3ds max for over 5 years now.

Vray for Mac is out in beta. Sign up!
I agree with you about Kerkythea
hypershot looks promising--
