MSAUD at Columbia Or Pratt

a_person

Help.

I am planning to move to New york for futher education. I am going to apply for both Pratt and Col's MSAUD. I just wana know more about the inside information about both schools. Such as acceptance rate, Gpa of acceptance etc etc. It would be great if some Alumni could share their experience about their school and what they are doing after graducation. I know I have around 2 months to prepare all the material and i know is going to be a pain in the ass. It would be great if some Alumni could share a look at their portfolio(the one that got them in the school), so I know how well prepare I need to be in order to get in to the school.

I know I might ask too much but anyway

Thanks a lot for whoeverz help

I'm a graduate of Pratt [BArch, though there is much more reciprocity relative to other schools] and as such I will answer the question you didn't ask.

What do you want out of the school on a pedagogic, or content level?

Pratt, while of course a design school, is much more concerned with digital fabrication. How do we actually build the crazy forms we all see in renders? What are the means and methods of evaluating the performance of a given set of geometries, how do we engage manufacturing and fabrication on economic and material levels?

Columbia, while a great school, seems to be more interested in the theoretical end of things. What do parametrics and self emergent systems when applied to architecture mean on a sensory, experiential, philosophical or social level?

Rather than asking input questions, like tuition or gpa's, you should be asking output questions, like: What do you want to do post graduation and how will your experience at that particular program facilitate that? If you can answer that, then the school will be chosen automatically, and you do what it takes to get there.

Also, all of the questions you asked can be answered by the school's Admissions departments.

Oh, the difference between knowedge and wisdom...
