So does anyone swear by the .fbx exporting file type? What is the benefit over ,dwg or .3ds

smaller file size and FBX can contain much more information from the model.

not sure, but I heard from my friend who is into animation, he said this file format lets you transfer all the key-frames of your animation from one software to another.

FBX in terms of exporting from Revit is a terrible move, it shatters the geometry and you end up with 10X more polys.

It's another platform specific file format that will make sharing information harder between non autodesk products.
