Executive Masters Program- for Architecture!?!

Bananas

What are the thoughts on the "Executive Masters" for architecture? Is this a really great thing, or a total waste of time? I've been contemplating a MArch for some time- even applied a few years back, but didn't follow through. I'm curious what people think!

see this from the New School's website:

Executive Masters Program
The Executive Masters Program is designed for mid-career, experienced practitioners interested in earning an accredited professional degree. Courses are structured in a convenient weekend format, allowing for the continuation of full-time professional practice, while obtaining the necessary credentials for personal and professional advancement. This program requires completion of a Bachelor of Arts (or Science) in Architecture degree or Bachelor of Environmental Design degree, or a degree in a related discipline in addition to architectural license within the U.S., and five years of documented full-time post-licensure work experience, as a registered architect. Students must complete a minimum of forty-five (45) quarter units.

New School has had some good faculty but I wonder about the fact that it is a for-profit business. The value of such a program is in the networking, and for that you could find better places . . . depends what you want to do with the extra credential or what specific skill you hope to gain through the program.

The program is aimed at individuals who are currently licensed through intern experience, but are in need of NAAB degree for reciprocity.

The Newschool of Architecture and Design (which is in California) is not to be mixed up with The New School University (in New York City).

I go to Parsons and The New School University is not a for-profit school.

Similar school names... different schools.Just to clarify.

This is the website for the Newschool of Architecture-California-Executive Master's program:

Executive Master's Program

Personally, I think that schools are making great strides in understanding that the non-traditional student does exist and are designing programs to cater to those students--aka--whatever floats your boat.

This program at NewSchool is fully accredited by NAAB.

You may also wish to explore the Distance MArch from the Boston Architectural College.

The Boston Architectural College is proud to offer a NAAB-accredited Distance Master of Architecture program.

This degree program is designed specifically for individuals who have an educational background in architecture and have worked in the profession. One of the most convenient benefits is that students are able to study from anywhere in the U.S., through online learning, coming to Boston for one week each semester. The program is designed to be completed in 2 years. Qualified candidates for the degree will have earned a bachelor’s degree with an architecture major, and have worked in the profession under a licensed architect for at least one year.

The Distance M.Arch allows students the opportunity to use professional experience to earn credit toward their degree, earn the academic credential required for the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE), and earn IDP and education credits for time spent working in the profession—all while studying at one of the leading professional design colleges in the country.
