Am thinking of studying to UQ - just wondered if there were any UQ students (past or present) who can tell what its like studying there? I'm particularly interested in how/if students managed to support themselves AND study/work on their projects as their contact hours seem to be 9-5, M-F.
Hi. I started B.Arch at UQ this year but quickly changed courses to Graphic Design. The contact hours at UQ were just crazy (in first year it was 9-5, four days a week) which left me tired, stressed and POOR (I couldn't acquire a causal job due to my limited availability). This is just my experience, but I really didn't enjoy my short time in the program as it was extremely traditional which emphasised technicality and hand-rendering and not so much design/creativity.
If you are in QLD I'd consider looking into the QUT program. I did a couple of subjects of the course last year and their program is significantly more design-centric and real world. Although the class size at QUT is larger and the studios at UQ are better quality, I think overall the experience/environment at QUT is better (not to mention contact hours are more like 3 days per week as opposed to 4/5!). I really regret starting architecture at UQ and not QUT.
Right now I aim to finish my B.Design in Graphic Design before getting back into architecture at Uni of Melbourne with their new non-professional M.Arch.
Good luck, hopefully you have a better experience than me!

Can anyone tell me what it's like studying Arch at University of QLD?
